Going straight
Martin Freeman has managed to achieve what his Office co-star Ricky Gervais couldn’t – and star opposite Jude Law.
The Hollywood superstar had been scheduled to appear in Gervais’s follow-up comedy, Extras, this summer – but was forced to cancel because of filming commitments.
But today it was announced that Martin Freeman is to follow up his starring role in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy blockbuster by appearing in Anthony Minghella's new project Breaking And Entering.
He and Law play partners in a London architecture firm in the film, described as a morality tale which explores attitudes towards immigration.
Speaking at the Cannes film festival, 33-year-old Freeman said "It's a straight role for me. I have played them before but I'm very much associated with comedy and that's something I'm trying to rectify. It's nice to have a balance between comedy and serious stuff."
Breaking and Entering begins shooting soon, and is scheduled for release next year.
Freeman was in Cannes to promote his latest film, the low-budget British comedy The All Together, in which he plays a frustrated daytime TV producer who returns home to find an American gangster has taken over his flat.Published: 16 May 2005
