BBC New Comedy contest launched

The BBC has launched its annual hunt for the best new stand-up talent.

As last year, the competition will air on digital radio station BBC7, with the winner receiving a £2,000 first prize.

Rules for entry are simply that you must be over 18, and not performed stand-up for more than three years.

Previous winners have included Marcus Brigstocke, Dan  Antopolski and The Boosh’s Julian Barratt,

Organisers said: “It doesn't matter if your act isn't conventional stand-up, we're after all kinds of new and innovative comedy, as long as it would work for a radio audience.”

To enter, download an entry form here. And send it with a three to five-minute routine to The BBC New Comedy Awards 2005, c/o Radio Entertainment, Room 5411, BBC Broadcasting House, Portland Place, London W1A 1AA.

Closing date is July 4. Regional heats will take place in September with semi-finalsin October.  In December the final will take place at the Comedy Store in London for broadcast on BBC 7.
