The exhibitionist
Ricky Gervais has revealed a hidden talent – as a painter.
The Office star donated an oil painting to a charity auction, raising £275 to help save endangered species in the Galapagos islands.
He was one of a number of celebrities who contributed works to the cause. Graham Norton’s efforts raised £300, and BBC journalist Andrew Marr, £600.
Leonor Stjepic, director of the Galapagos Conservation Trust, said of Ricky’s work, right: “We were surprised to receive something very different – a very delicate and thoughtful oil painting, which left us with the conclusion that there is very much more to Ricky than his great talent as a comedian.
“He has certainly created a very atmospheric and quite moving piece of work and has a real artistic talent which has been kept fairly quiet until now.”
The painting features in an exhibition at the Hoopers Gallery, Farringdon, East London, until Friday.
