Comedy swings in

Five orders its first sketch show

Channel Five has commissioned its first ever original comedy show.

Entertainment chief Ben Frow has ordered a six-part late-night sketch show about “Britain's unique attitude to relationships and sex".

Although the series, tentatively titled Swinging, seems to echo Five’s old sex-obsessed image, it is part of the network’s drive to become a home of comedy.

It has already brought in Friends spin-off Joey at great expense and Charlie Sheen sitcom Two And A Half Men, head of comedy Graham Smith is developing his own slate of sitcoms.

Swinging has been ordered from independent production house Monkey, where Chris Evans’s former TFI Friday sidekick Will Macdonald is executive producer.

Regular characters in the series will include middle class swingers, ignorant sex counselors, neurotic boyfriends, overly demanding singletons, and gay fiancés.

No details of cast or writers have yet been released.
