Kay's music video

'Amarillo' filmed for Comic Relief

Peter Kay has filmed a music video for Tony Christie’s Is This The Way To Amarillo? for Comic Relief.

The comedian revived the 1971 hit as a cult favourite when he used it in Phoenix Nights, because his mum was such a devoted fan of the singer.

Other famous faces from the Seventies, including Keith Harris and Bernie Clifton also took part in the video, in which Kay, as a nightclub singer, mimes along to the track.

Kay said: "We had such a laugh during the filming of the special for Red Nose Night. I hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as we enjoyed making it."

And Christie, whose new album The Definitive Collection was released yesterday, said: "When Peter Kay and Comic Relief approached me about doing this I was thrilled and hope that it will help raise lots of money for such a great cause".

The video will be screened on BBC1 on Red Nose Night  on BBC1 Friday March 11.

The song was used in Phoenix Nights when bouncers Max and Paddy played the tune to a bus full of devout Muslim elders on the way to prayer, in the hope of encouraging a singalong.
