Izzard the conman
Eddie Izzard has signed on to star as an Irish conman in a new comedy-drama for American TV.
The comic will play the patriarch of a family who moves to the Southern US to scam the local population in the untitled show, described as a “dark comedy”.
The FX cable network has ordered an hour-long pilot episode with hopes for a full series, Hollywood trade newspaper Variety reports.
FX entertainment president John Landgraf said: “We were aware of Eddie Izzard as an emerging dramatic actor,. We love to allow actors to appear in something different from their familiar guise.
"This is an original series that's also soulful and deep, a thematic exploration of the American family."
