By Royal appointment
Dara O’Briain and Jimmy Carr are to appear at this year’s Royal Variety Performance.
Also on the bill is Will Smith – the British stand-up, not the American movie star – in what could prove a major career break for the relatively unknown comic.
Lee Evans will also take to the stage, performing extracts from The Producers with co-star Nathan Lane.
And the cast of Round The Horne… Revisited will be presenting scenes from their West End comedy, too.
The full line-up is not revealed until the day of the sold-out show, December 14, but it is already known to feature Liza Minnelli, Ozzy Osbourne, Sir Elton John and Sir Cliff Richard. It will be screened on BBC1 the following night.
Prince Charles will be the royal guest at the London Coliseum, which is reopening after a £41million facelift.
This year will be the second time Carr has featured on the show; but his 2002 appearance turned slightly sour when he later accused Jim Davidson of stealing one of the gags he told on the night.Published: 26 Nov 2004
