Sacha does Charlie

Ali G star set for Hollywood fame

Ali G creator Sacha Baron Cohen is set to star in a series of movies about a louche aristocratic art dealer with underworld connections.

Warner Bros are negotiating to buy the rights to the Charlie Mortdecai comic thrillers, created by author Kyril Bonfiglioli in the Seventies.

The first film project is The Mortdecai Moustache Mystery, which the author left unfinished at the time of his death in 1985, but was subsequently completed by satirist Craig Brown.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cohen is being lined up for the role as the aristocrat, who would find himself working in the States.

And the studio is hoping the film could become a lucrative franchise.

Cohen, 33, is also providing one of the voices in the forthcoming animation Madagascar, set in New York’s Central Park Zoo, alongside the likes of Ben Stiller and Chris Rock.

And it has previously been announced that he would be starring in Steven Spielberg’s Dinner For Schmucks, a remake of the French comedy Le Diner De Cons, to be released next year.
