Bar firebombed after comedy
Police say they can find no motive for the attack on Sunday night – and haven’t ruled out the fact it was a revenge attack after that evening’s stand-up show.
One customer was left with burn injuries to his arm after a homemade petrol bomb was thrown into upmarket Leith bar The Lighthouse shortly after the weekly night hosted by Reg Anderson had ended.
Part of the bar was damaged, but the blaze was put out before firefighters arrived.
Detective Sergeant Sean Scot told The Scotsman: "So far there is no link to any specific incident but there was a comedian on in the bar that night and there is always banter with the comedian and the audience during the act and we cannot rule anything out.
"If this was a reaction to anything that happened in the bar then it is a very over-the-top reaction and could have resulted in serious injury.
Police have appealed for witnesses who saw two men running from the £1.5 million pub just before midnight.
A police spokeswoman said: “This incident could have been far more serious. It was miraculous there weren’t more people hurt.”
