The face of Four

Carr lands major show

Jimmy Carr is to be the face of Channel 4’s Friday nights from next year.

The comic has been signed up to front a comedy entertainment show provisionally called The Friday Night Project.

Fellow stand-up Rob Rouse, right, will also be a regular in the show which promises a cast of comics as well as a different house band each week.

A Channel 4 spokesman  added: “Each week they will be joined by a different big name celebrity guest host.

“Regular features include a topical monologue by the guest host who will also act in comedy strands and take part in studio games tailored to their personality.”

The guest host set-up is similar to perennial American favourite Saturday Night Live.

A pilot episode was hosted by fiery Hell’s Kitchen chef Gordon Ramsay, and featured Razorlight as the house band.

The show is to be made by Princess Productions, the independent production house behind Five’s The Wright Stuff and Channel 4’s ill-fated breakfast project RI:SE.

Carr has also recently filmed a special for America’s Comedy Central channel, to be aired in the new year.
