Hayward wins Holsten title

Sally-Anne Hayward won the first Holsten Pils comedy competition in London last night.

Her prize includes £1,000, a trip to the brewer’s home town of Hamburg and a deal with agents Bound and Gagged.

Hayward, until recently a radio presenter on Bristol’s Star 107.2FM, has been performing stand-up for around three years. The contest, co-sponsored by lads' mag FHM, was open to any act who did not have an agent.

James Sherwood and South African Martin Evans were named as joint runners-up.

Finalists were selected following a series of eight regional heats in Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Cambridge, Oxford, London and Bristol.

Judges at the final included agent Nigel Klarfield, compere Silky and representatives from the sponsor.

Clips of these regional heats are online here.
