A challenge of note
Musical comic Rainer Hersch is to attempt to play every comedy club in London in just one month.
There are about 80 venues in the capital, and Hersch hopes to play them all in October as a fundraising stunt for the charity Music And The Deaf.
The challenge also coincides with the releases of his debut CD All Classical Music Explained.
“This is indeed a somewhat insane challenge,” he said. “Perhaps every comedy club in Germany might have been a more realistic target, as London is the biggest comedy circuit in the world.
“With hearing difficulties myself, and as a musician, Music And The Deaf is a cause very close to my heart and if I can raise money for the charity by proving the impossible possible – then it will have been a feat worth undertaking.”
His first gig is at Jongleurs in Camden on October 1, and ends at the Comedy Store on October 30.
Since many clubs operate only on Friday and Saturday nights, Hersch will be tripling up gigs most weekends; and even some weekdays will require two gigs.Published: 6 Sep 2004
