Hitchhikers gets audio release

The new radio series of The Hitchhikers’ Guide To The Galaxy is to be released on CD and cassette just weeks after it debuts on Radio 4.

Adapted from the final three novels of Douglas Adams's blockbuster franchise, the episodes reunite the main cast of the original radio series.

The 14 new episodes will be broadcast in two series, starting on Tuesday September 21. And they will be available to buy from October 25.

BBC Audiobooks' publishing director Jan Paterson, said: "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a true gem in audio publishing. We have an undoubted bestseller on our hands for this Christmas."

And commissioning editor Michael Stevens, said: "Hitchhikers’ is a wonderful series which appeals to all ages and all types. In the best traditions of science fiction, it explores the themes and quirks of our everyday lives, and puts them into a fantastic setting."

An impressive 350,000 Hitchhikers’ CDs and tapes have been sold so far, combining copies of the two original series, plus Adams’s readings of the five Hitchhiker's novels.
