Judging panel announced

The judges of this year’s Perrier awards have been announced.

Chaired by Bruce Dessau, comedy critic of London’s Evening Standard, the ten-strong panel will see more than 250 shows during the Edinburgh Fringe.

The winner, who receives £7,500, will be announced at midnight on Saturday August 28.

The rest of the panel are:

  • Stephen Armstrong: comedy critic, The Sunday Times
  • Kate Copstick: comedy critic, The Scotsman
  • Dominic Maxwell: comedy critic, The Times
  • Andrew Mackenzie: commissioning editor of factual entertainment, Channel 4
  • Katie Marsden: producer, BBC Radio
  • Lucy Armitage: comedy producer, Tiger Aspect
  • KT Bassett, Johnny Laird, Rosalind Romer: competition winners

Awards director Nica Burns said: “ There is tremendous excitement about the new faces to watch as well as about the many established and well-loved comedians returning with fantastic fresh work.

“Once again, the awards will catapult hidden comic geniuses into the nation’s consciousness.”

The winner and nominees will appear at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End in a Perrier Pick Of The Fringe season on October 3, 10 and 17.

Meanwhile, the Tap Water awards, set up as a rival in protest at Perrier parent company Nestle’s marketing of baby food, will also take place again this year – with its winners unveiled during a seven-hour show on August 29.
