It's criminal...
The much-derided Police Academy series is set for a resurrection, with plans under way for an eight movie.
The franchise has been dormant for more than a decade, following a ten-year reign that netted more than $230 million at the American box office alone.
Now creator Paul Maslansky has told the Hollywood Reporter it was time to revive his cash cow.
He said: “"I saw that Starsky & Hutch and a number of other revivals were doing really well. Police Academy has such a great history. I thought, 'Why not?' "
Maslansky plans to reunite members of the old cast, mixed with newer talent. "We became very much like a family," he said. "It's is very unusual to have seven films with virtually all the same major cast."
The franchise started in 1984, and has also spawned a TV series and a cartoon series, but nothing on the big screen since Police Academy 7: Mission To Moscow in 1994.
