'My work is pap'
The 40-year-old comic admitted that he hates his job, saying: “ "I feel that what I do is not worth that much.
“I am acutely aware that what I do is complete pap. It doesn't mean anything.
“It won't last. It's just of its time and it's absolutely meaningless."
And he says he doesn’t like his wife Heather watching him work. He told the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine: “I don’t think it has any relation to who we are at home.”
The comic, speaking to promote his forthcoming film Freeze Frame, also said he has just turned down a £500,000 deal to promote alcohol.
He said: “I didn’t want to do an advert for drink. I get all these guilt trips in my head as to whether the product is worthy.
“I didn’t look at the finances, if I did I might as well go and do a gameshow.”
“I’ve been offered millions of things recently, but it’s the creative process that’s important to me, not celebrity. If I couldn't create I would kill myself - if it wasn't for my family.”
This is not the first advertising deal he rejected; three years ago he turned down a £600,000 offer to promote crisps.
