Harry Rose to the occasion

Hill scoops top TV accolade

Harry Hill has been named best comedy actor at the prestigious Golden Rose international TV awards.

He saw off competition from Little Britain duo Matt Lucas and David Walliams to take the coveted prize in Lucern, Switzerland, for his ITV1 show TV Burp.

However, the sketch duo didn't go home empty-handed, as they collected the Press Prize for their BBC series.

This is the second Rose d'Or award for Hill, who won the best comedy award for the All New Harry Hill Show last year.

Richard Allen-Turner, Hill's manager at Avalon said: "I'm delighted for Harry. It's a great result in the face of stiff competition.

"We'd like to thank ITV for their belief in the show and their commitment to innovative new comedy which has made this possible. I think it's about time people revised their opinion about what's going on at that channel."

The Office star Martin Freeman picked up a best sitcom actor award for his role in the ITV comedy Hardware, and Aardman Animation's Creature Comforts scooped best comedy.

However, Ant and Dec were the night's big winners: scooping both best game show host and the variety categories for their Saturday Night Take Away
