Fools prosper
Only Fools and Horses has been voted Britain's favourite sitcom.
The comedy, which made its debut 23 years ago, was revealed as winner after months of searching.
It was crowned winner during a live BBC2 show on Saturday night hosted by Jonathan Ross after more than 1.5million votes were cast.
Only Fools and Horses gained morethan a fifth of all votes, a total of 342,426, well ahead of second placed Blackadder which received 282,106 votes. Vicar of Dibley, as the surprise third place.
The full run-down, with their share of the vote, was:
- Only Fools and Horses (22.2%)
- Blackadder (18.3%)
- Vicar of Dibley (13.8%)
- Dad's Army (11.3%)
- Fawlty Towers (11.2%)
- Yes Minister (8%)
- Porridge (6.1%)
- Open All Hours (4.4%)
- The Good Life (2.6%)
- One Foot in the Grave (2%)
Del Boy actor David Jason said: "I am delighted that something which gave me some of the happiest times of my life still gives pleasure to so many people."
And writer John Sullivan said: "I'm delighted for everyone connected with the series and my thanks to everyone who voted for us."
Producer Ricky Kelehar added: "I am glad the list isn't full of modern comedies that people remember seeing a few weeks before - these are programmes which can rightly be called classics."
