C4 commissions curry-house sitcom

Channel 4 has commissioned a new sitcom set in a Glaswegian curry house.

Meet The Magoons is the lastest sitcom to come from the Comedy Lab strand, which broadcast a pilot episode in 2002.

It was nominated for an Emma award for multicultural comedy, with judges calling it 'crude but funny'.

However, not all critics were impressed. Mark Lewinsohn, author of the Radio Times Guide To TV comedy said: "There wasn't a single laugh in Meet The Magoons and it was littered with gratuitous foul language."

However, six new half-hour programmes have been commissioned from Scottish production house Wark Clements.

The show is written, directed by and stars Hardeep Singh Kohli and revolves around four Punjabi restauranterurs and a Welsh waiter.
