Seinfeld axed show after son hurt

Jerry Seinfeld has revealed the reason he cancelled a stand-up show on Saturday.

The comic flew home to New York after his year-old son Julian was taken to hospital after a fall, leaving more than 3,000 disappointed fans in South Carolina

His publicist Elizabeth Clark said: "Julian is at home and is doing very well. Jerry's tour will continue this weekend as scheduled."

Originally, the sitcom star cited only 'circumstances beyond his control' when he axed his sold-out Saturday night show in Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium.

At the time, some of the 3,200 fans who had paid up to $75 (£40) for tickets were furious and bemused.

"He's playing a practical joke on us," said one.

And Steven Scherer told the local Fox station: "We've paid more than $200 plus the price of tickets. He's got agents, publicists and his own private pilot. Why couldn't he have given us more advanced notice? That would have been nice."

Despite a flashing billboard outside the venue, 150 people still made it to the auditorium, only to be told that Seinfeld had postponed his performance until November 13.

"The good news is that he didn't cancel," said auditorium manager Steve Jones.
