Second term for student comics
Plans are under way to make the Chortle Student Comic award an annual event after Warwick University's Lloyd Langford took the inaugural title.
The Welshman, pictured, was the choice of judges and the home-crowd audience last night, with Londoner Mike Belgrave and Cambridge's James Bench-Capon taking second place.
Organisers deemed the night a success, and are now working towards a bigger event next year, including a series of regional heats and a high-profile final.
Scores of comic hopefuls entered the inaugural competition, the brainchild of Essex University's comedy society but organised by Warwick's, and 15 were chosen to perform at last night's final.
Chortle sponsored the event, to tie in with its Live Comedy Awards for acts working across the circuit.
Site editor Steve Bennett, who was one of the industry judges, said: "Last night proved there is a real demand for a competition like this. It's got an exciting future.
"Warwick University's Stacy Squibb did a fantastic job in organising the event, which will hopefully be a great start to an annual award. We look forward to working with colleges across the country on next year's event."
