Write, said Fred

My Family creator heads new sitcom

My Family creator Fred Barron is working on a new sitcom about a woman having trouble with men.

The eight-part BBC1 show will be written using the American team-writing system, just like his earlier success.

Everything I Know About Men will tell the story of twentysomething Rebecca "Bex" Atwell, who has already been compared to Bridget Jones, even though she has a boyfriend.

Barron said: "I wanted to write an adult comedy about how completely differently men and women see the world, and each other.

"The fact that we get along at all without cudgelling each other to death is one of life's minor miracles."

A BBC comedy chief Sophie Clarke-Jervoise said: "Fred joined us at the beginning of this year to develop more team-written shows in the true American sense, and this is his first series commission so it's a very exciting one for us.

"The scripts are very funny and it's fantastic to have so many talented writers working together in one room with such a great mentor."

The writing team comprises Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, who have previously written for Smack the Pony, Danny Robins and Dan Tetsell from the Club Seals live sketch group behind this year's Edinburgh show Live Ghost Hunt, and Katie Douglas, who was found through the BBC talent hunt Northern Exposure.

Everything I Know About Men is currently casting and is due on air in 2004.
