The horror, the horror...

Marenghi's TV plans revealed

Perrier-winner Garth Marenghi is to make his TV debut on Channel 4 next year.

The horror writer, played by Matthew Holmes, will be the subject of a spoof TV documentary Darkplace.

The show will contrive that an 80s TV show of the same name was commissioned from Marenghi, but never made it to the screens.

It will feature footage from the 'lost' show in which a maverick doctor Rick Dagless, played by Marenghi, battles evil forces lurking beneath a hospital in Romford as well as mock interviews with the writer and the cast.

Darkplace will also star Richard Ayoade, who played Marenghi's publisher Dean Learner in the 2001 Perrier-winning Netherhead stage show.

The duo were signed up soon after scooping the accolade, and the show has been in development ever since.

It will be made by the production arm of Avalon, who are also Garth Marenghi's agents.
