Comic fined for hitting sweary fan

Roy "Chubby" Brown has been fined £200 after hitting a fan with an umbrella - to stop him swearing.

The foul-mouthed comic admitted lashing out at Edward McCullough when he shouted: "How are you, Chubby? How are you, you fat bastard?"

It's a line he often uses about himself, but prosecutor Jo Shepherd conceded that there was probably more to the exchange, on Blackpool's North Pier.

Brown said he hit out to uphold traditional values. "I just wanted the man to stop swearing and being abusive in front of women and children," he said.

Brown, 58, who appeared in court under his real name Roy Vasey, was also ordered to pay £150 in costs and compensation.
