Vegas stunt furore

Stage manager's job at risk

A stage manager is in danger of losing his job following an impromptu stunt by Johnny Vegas.

Disciplinary action has started against the man following Vegas's appearance at the King's Theatre, Glasgow, last month as part of the city's comedy festival.

The comic asked for a ladder to be brought from the wings and placed across the empty orchestra pit, then crawled across it.

But now the stage manager faces a disciplinary hearing, because Ambassador Theatre Group managers says he should have stopped the stunt on health and safety grounds.

A spokesman for Vegas told theatre trade newspaper The Stage: "Johnny thinks it is outrageous that ATG should take this to a disciplinary hearing.

"Johnny is a grown man, responsible for his own actions."

The theatre group say the matter is an "internal, personal and strictly confidential" one.
