Beeb launches talent hunt

Stand-ups and sketch writers sought

The BBC has launched this year's hunt for new comedy talent.

Again the corporation is seeking aspiring stand-ups and sketch writers to take part in the scheme.

Entrants to the stand-up competition go through a number of heats, with the six semi-finals broadcast on BBC3.

The final will be held at the Edinburgh festival, with the winner receiving £2,000, with two runners-up each getting £1,000. Last year, Nina Conti (pictured) took the title.

Entrants need to submit a VHS or standard audio tape of a routine between five and eight minutes long as well as the application form that can be downloaded from Chortle here.

The awards are open to anyone of any age in the UK and Ireland, provided they have not been working on the circuit for more than three years (paid or unpaid).

Anyone who has previously appeared in BBC New Comedy Award semi-finals can only re-enter if they are using material not previously used in the competition.

Sketch writers should send in three sketches - either in script form or on VHS - of less than two minutes with their application form. You can be a solo writer or part of a team of four or less. The winner will receive £1,000 prize money.

The closing date is Friday April 11. For more details, call the organisers on 020 8225 8791
