Saunders agrees to fifth series

Absolutely Fabulous is set to return following the success of the Christmas special.

Jennifer Saunders has agreed to write another six episodes of the sitcom after the festive edition, set in New York, attracted nine million viewers.

She originally decided to end the show after its third series aired in 1996, but revived it in 2001.

Star June Whitfield told the Daily Mirror: "Jennifer's decided to write some more episodes of Ab Fab and we're all delighted. It's very exciting.

"We're due to start filming before the summer."
