Globes shortlist is announced

The man behind Seinfeld has been nominated for two Golden Globes for his follow-up show.

Larry David, who created the hit sitcom with Jerry Seinfeld is up for best comedy actor for his bleak comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm, while the show is also on the shortlist for best comedy.

David, who was the inspiration for George Costanza in the long-running comedy, alos wrote the nominated show, screened on the HBO cable network.

The other contenders for the comedy prize make a familiar shortlist: Friends, Sex And The City, The Simpsons and Will & Grace.

David is up against Friends star Matt LeBlanc, Bernie Mac, Will & Grace's Eric McCormack and Tony Shalhoub, from Monk, for best comedy actor.

The best comedy actress shortlist is: Jennifer Aniston, Bonnie Hunt (Life With Bonnie), Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm In The Middle), Debra Messing (Will & Grace), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex And The City).

Parker's co-stars Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon are also in the running for best supporting actress, while Michael In The Middle's Bryan Cranston has a shot at best supporting actor.

The awards have 18 categories for TV and film - the movie awards being seen as a key indicator for Oscar success.

Chicago leads the field with eight nominations, including best musical or comedy, where it is shortlisted alongside About a Boy, Adaptation, Chicago, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Nicholas Nickleby
