It's grim up north...
Peter Kay has claimed Northern comedy audiences are tougher than Southern ones.
The Phoenix Nights star says punters in the north are less willing to laugh - but more willing to heckle.
"There's this myth about North and South but it's bollocks," the British Comedy Award winner told Manchester's City Life magazine.
"If anything the audiences are easier down there. Nearer home they're a bit like 'Make us laugh, go on then'.
"Don't get me wrong, it's always gone down well, but I've found them tougher to play.
"You get a lot more nobheads shouting stuff out up here, because they feel as though they know you."
