Garofalo to star in her own sitcom

Janeane Garofalo is to star in her own sitcom.

The comedian, who played moody booker Paula in The Larry Sanders show, will play a TV producer in the New York-based comedy Slice O' Life.

The show, being developed for America's ABC network, will revolve around, Garofalo's character, a woman in her mid-30s who produces lightweight feature pieces for a news magazine show.

Writer Bill Diamond added: "This show is about the compromises you make along the way while trying to hold on to your principals."

But he added: "Janeane's not the kind of typical, conventional half-hour comedy star. It would be a shame not to create something unconventional.

Sarah Timberman, president of producers Universal Network Television, said: "The joke around here has been that every year there are a dozen pilots written for 'Janeane Garofalo types,' and -here we are getting to do a series with the real thing

Garofalo has also appeared in several movies, including The Truth About Cats And Dogs (pictured).
