Little Britain heads to BBC2

The radio comedy Little Britain is to transfer to TV.

BBC chiefs have ordered eight half-hour instalments of the programme, starring Matt Lucas and Dave Walliams.

The series will be broadcast on the new BBC3, which replaces BBC Choice, before transferring to BBC2.

Filming is expected to start after the new year.

Jon Plowman, head of BBC comedy entertainment, said radio was a natural breeding ground for comedy, with The League of Gentlemen, Goodness Gracious Me and Alan Partridge all starting life on Radio 4.

Lucas is currently appearing as George Dawes in Shooting Stars. His last collaboration with Walliams was in UK Play's Rock Profiles, which also transferred to terrestrial TV.
