Izzard's Broadway debut

'Joe Egg' transfers to New York

Eddie Izzard is to make his Broadway acting debut next year.

He will be taking the same role in A Day in the Death of Joe Egg which brought him critical acclaim in the West End last year.

Peter Nichols' dark comedy tells of how the pressures of bringing up a handicapped child take their toll on a marriage. It was first performed in New York in 1968.

The revival runs at the American Airlines Theatre from March 14 to May 25, although the official 'first night' has yet to be named.

Victoria Hamilton, who starred opposite Izzard in London, will also take the female lead on Broadway.
