Eric and Ern play set for Broadway

Morecambe and Wise tribute The Play What I Wrote will transfer to Broadway next year.

But the show is being rewritten for the America market, toning down references to Eric and Ern and focussing instead on the English in New York.

As in the sell-out West End run, the piece will feature a mystery guest star each night. Celebrities who appeared in the London version have included Joanna Lumley, Sir Ian McKellen, Sting, Jerry Hall and Roger Moore.

The $2million Broadway version will again be directed by Kenneth Branagh and star Sean Foley and Hamish McColl, otherwise known as The Right Size.

New Yorkers will be able to see the show from March 7, with its opening night on March 30.

If the show is a success, The Right Size will have done something Morecambe and Wise never did, making an impact in the States.

Meanwhile, the show returns to the Wyndhams Theatre in London from October 30. Click here for tickets.
