Ted star Dermot honoured

Irish premier Bertie Ahern has unveiled a sculpture in memory of Father Ted star Dermot Morgan.

At yesterday's ceremony in Dublin's Merrion Square, Mr Ahern described Morgan as "a much-loved, world-class entertainer and the prince of modern Irish comedy".

"This is a unique occasion in honour of a unique man.

He said he enjoyed listening to Scrap Saturday, the Irish satirical radio show Morgan starred in before his Father Ted fame.

Mr Ahern said: "I was one of the lucky politicians - I got off lightly I think. God knows, if Dermot were still around today, he would not be short on political material."

Morgan died in 1998 at the age of 45.
