Big Brother for comics to hit the US

TV chiefs are planning a comedy talent hunt that's a cross between Pop Idol and Big Brother.

The American network NBC has greenlighted eight hour-long episodes of the new reality TV show Funniest Person in America.

After a nationwide talent hunt for aspiring stand-ups, up to ten finalists will move into a house together.

The series, set to air next spring or summer, will then follow them as they compete for the top prize, a deal to develop a show for the network.

Leading writer and comedian Jay Mohr will be on hand to give the contestants tips, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
