Mel and Sue land Radio 4 show

Mel and Sue have landed their own Radio 4 comedy.

The double-act, of Channel 4's Light Lunch fame, promise 'characters, song, sketches and banter' in their new show, starting on September 26.

Sketches include a Jane Austen spoof called Sweet Fanny Adams, a Bergerac-Lovejoy hybrid called Leather Island and a Christian love ballard between Cliff Richard and Delia Smith.

Sue Perkins said: "It's part double-act and part sketches, with some character comedy. And there will be some extreme nudity - extreme."

And she added that the show will feature no celebrity guests "apart from those we imitate very badly themselves"

Sue and partner Mel Giedroyc are playing down expectations for the show, called The Mel and Sue Thing.

In publicity shots show the pair place themselves somewhere between 'mediocre' and 'underwhelming' on a chart. And Perkins added: "People should be forgiving."

The pair also host a regular Sunday lunctime programme on BBC London radio and will appear at the capital's Arts Theatre on Sundays from October 20 to November 17, as well as at the Komedia in Brighton on October 18 and 19.
