Fat chance

Spin-off sitcom for Scottish sketch duo

Two characters from the Scottish sketch show Chewin The Fat are getting their own series.

The exploits of the two Glasgow pensioners Jack and Victor are continued in the six-part series Still Game.

Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill, who wrote and star in the sitcom, originally performed the characters at the 1997 Edinburgh Fringe, then toured it as a live show.

Kiernan, 40, is a former tailor who turned his hand to stand-up, while Hemphill, 32, hosted a Radio Scotland football show and was part of a troupe that won the So You Think You're Funny? new act competition in 1990.

Hephill is also the current record of Glasgow university - a post that has previously been held by Stanely Baldwin Winnie Mandela and EastEnders actor Ross Kemp,

Still Game starts on BBC1 in Scotland at 9.30pm from September 6.
