Wisty galore

Unheard Peter Cook tapes released

A new batch of previously unheard Peter Cook recordings are to be released on CD today.

The move is likely to spark another row between Cook's widow, Lin Chong, and his old drinking pal "Rainbow" George Weiss.

Weiss recorded more than 100 hours of conversations between himself and Cook at his home in Hampstead home, but Chong has repeatedly acted to stop them coming into the public domain.

Plans to air some of the material on Radio 4 in 1999 was scrapped when Chong threatened to sue.

"The CDs are mostly conversations between the two of us, but they also contain a few spoof calls Peter made to LBC Radio pretending to be a Norwegian fisherman," Weiss told the Daily Telegraph.

"I have kept the project secret because I didn't want Lin Chong to hear about it and sabotage it before it went on sale."

"I hope this will show people the real Peter Cook."
