Lost Groucho work to get an airing

Some newly-discovered Marx Brothers' material is to feature in a Radio 4 show later this month.

The recovered extracts from their Thirties radio series Flywheel,Shyster And Flywheel will be aired alongside clips of Groucho singing with Frank Sinatra, Danny Kaye and George Burns; plus extracts from his quiz show You Bet Your Life.

These archives form part of Michael Roberts's show Groucho And Me, to be broadcast on August 20,

Roberts (pictured) has previous portrayed Groucho on stage and on the radio,

He said "In 1930,my nanna took my father to see the Marx Brothers' stage show The Coconuts when it eventually reached Tottenham and, after this, the kids couldn't get enough of the Marxes.

"My dad quickly became the world 's youngest Groucho and, while other kids were playing with dolls, my family were pretending that 42 Lansdown Road was Coconut Manor, Florida.

"And in the later years, when other fathers were teaching their sons how to play
football, my father was loping around in full make-up, reciting Groucho's lines from the movies. How could that not make an impression on me?"
