Connolly biog tops bestsellers

The biography of Billy Connolly by wife Pamela Stephenson has jumped to the top of the bestseller list.

Billy was released in paperback last month, and now tops the official chart published by The Bookseller.

The book - which charts the comic's journey from his abusive Glaswegian childhood to stardom - was number six last week.

Its success follows that of the hardback edition, released in 2001. It was last year's bestselling hardback,, shifting 280,000 copies before the end of the year and outselling Robbie Williams and Victoria Beckham.

Stephenson's psychological insights into Connolly's upbringing and former drink problems also garnered critical acclaim.

The second-best selling book this week is Ben Elton's novel Dead Famous.
