Costs nix Fringe show
A high-profile play featuring one of the stars of Ally McBeal has pulled out of the Edinbugh Fringe.
Producers of Fuddy Mears, starring Jane Krakowski, blamed the high cost of staging a festival show for the decision.
One of the backers pulled out earlier in the week, and no other finance could be found.
A statement is expected next week, but a source told The Scotsman: "The Fringe has a terrible reputation as a place to lose money. Once one backer withdrew, no-one was going to take it up."
As well as Krakowski, who played office gossip Elaine Vassal in Ally McBeal, the show would have featured comic Scott Capurro in his first serious stage role.
Capurro's agent Bob Voice told the paper: "Quite frankly, we are furious about this. Scott is well known on the Fringe for his stand-up comedy, but this year, we saw Fuddy Mears as his Edinburgh centrepiece. "
Capurro, pictured, will still perform a comedy show at the Assembly Rooms.
