Mersey mission

Liverpool to host comedy fest

Comedians as diverse as Des O'Connor and Johnny Vegas are to converge on Liverpool for a comedy festival this month.

Others taking part in the 11-day event include Boothby Graffoe, Ross Noble, Sean Lock and Owen O'Neill.

The festival takes place in theatres, pubs and comedy clubs in the city from July 4 to 14.

One of the more innovative ideas is the Drink Up, Stand-Up tour, a pub crawl that features a different comedian in each bar.

Daniel Kitson, Keith Carter and Tom O'Connor are also taking part in the event, which hopes to add weight to Liverpool's campaign to be named European City of Culture in 2008.
