Dodd slams 'Vegas' idea
Ken Dodd has slammed plans to make Blackpool Britain's answer to Las Vegas.
The veteran comic interrupted his gags at the gala reopening of the town's Grand Theatre to condemn proposals to turn the resort into a gambling town, because it would lose its family image.
And he staked a bet himself - of £1 - that the bid would be unsuccessful.
He told the audience: "It would be bloody barmy to have a casino.
"What does it say in Albert And The Lion? A place noted for fresh air and fun - and that is what you would lose.
"I'm speaking as an outsider, but Blackpool has got to look at this question again."
He added that he was not against gambling, but was concerned about the effects of addiction, The Stage reports.
