Crook plans class sitcom
Mackenzie Crook is writing a sitcom based on the ineffectual teacher Mr Bagshaw, the character he performs live.
He said: "Mr Bagshaw's got a beard and a basin haircut, tinted glasses, burgundy tracksuit. I think he'll know who he is."
"There will also be a trendy teacher. "He's called Mr Fonzi and he perches on the desk, and lets the kids have cappuccinos in class and call him by his first name," said the star of The Office. "He'll think he's quite cool but the kids will know that he's not.
"I want it to be quite odd. I want to use weird camera angles and light. I want the whole feel of it to be like an exaggerated memory."
Crook also said his mum was shocked when she saw how unwell he looked on Ricky Gervais's award-winning comedy.
"My mum had a go at me. She said, 'The makeup on your eyes is unrealistic.' I said, 'Mum, we don't wear make-up.'
"I don't mind. That unhealthy look has won me quite a few nice parts - drug addicts and drug dealers. And, um, losers and weirdos."
But he's not so happy about the pudding-basin haircut, telling The Mirror: "The hair was terrible. We recorded the series just before my wedding last May, so in all the wedding photos I've got Gareth's haircut. I didn't have time to grow it out
"Lindsay, my wife, wasn't happy about it at all, and it's going to be there in my family album for years to come."
