MTV host returns to comedy

MTV star Russell Brand is making a return to stand-up.

The 24-year-old was snapped up by the music station in 2000, just months after he started in comedy, and has rarely performed since.

He presented the late-night Dance Floor Chart show, confusing clubbers with surreal conversation, and has a stint hosting the request show Select.

But now he's returning to the live comedy circuit, hosting a fortnightly show in London's trendy Brick Lane.

The club is named Pearly Poll v The Titty knife, after one of Jack The Ripper's victims, and launches as 93 Feet Eat on Wednesday January 30.

Brand is also working on a comedy series for BBC Choice with Mark Thomas's production company Vera.

He also has a role in the Channel 4 adaptation of Zadie Smith's comic novel White Teeth, which starts filming next month for transmission later in the year.
