French's alien love story

Dawn French is to star as a tourist information officer who falls in love with an alien in a new romantic comedy.

She will star opposite Stephen Tompkinson, a lovelorn extraterrestrial who lands in the Lake District in the show, Ted and Alice.

The plot gets complicated when Alice's boyfrien, Barry, appears on the scene.

Three hour-long episodes have been commissioned by BBC1, broadcasting industry website produxion.com reports.

Filming on the series begins next week.
