Making a Stand

Scottish club plans to expand

Scottish comedy club The Stand has its sights set on expanding south of the border.

Director Tommy Sheppard, who runs venues in Glasgow and Edinburgh, told actors' newspaper The Stage that he is looking to open a new site somewhere in England.

The new club would continue The Stand's policy of encouraging local talent, he added.

His planned expansion comes as the giant Jongleurs chain plans a new branch in Glasgow to rival Sheppard's venture.
