A taxing role

Mrs Doyle back for Revenue ads

Father Ted's faithful housekeeper Mrs Doyle is to front a new advertising campaign for the Inland Revenue.

Actress Pauline McLynn will reprise her dotty character for the £5.5million campaign to persuade people to fill in their tax returns - making good use of her much-quoted catchphrase: "Go on, go on, go on."

The campaign launches today on national TV, followed by press and radio adverts, and marks the end of the cartoon character Hector The Inspector

Paymaster General Dawn Primarolo said : "This is a fun campaign but one with a serious message.

"We know that filling in a tax return isn't something most people look forward to. The advertisements encourage people, in Mrs. Doyle's inimitable style, to get them out of the way."
