Chortle Awards 2018: The results
Inside No 9, Greg Davies, Robert Webb and Joe Lycett were among the big-name winners of the Chortle Awards tonight.
But in a landmark year, the live comedy section of the ceremony was dominated by women for the first time – with female acts scooping more than half the categories.
Kiri Pritchard-Mclean, pictured, was the only comic to come away with two awards: for best MC and best club comedian.
Other winners include Mae Martin, for breakthrough act; Flo & Joan - best known for their Nationwide ads – taking the music and variety award; and Hannah Gadsby, adding to her hefty trophy cabinet with another accolade for her show Nanette.
Tony Law and Friends in the Battle for Icetopia – the comedy extravaganza performed on ice – was named event of the year, while Jordan Brookes won the acclaim of his peers by being named comedians’ comedian.
The ceremony was held at PizzaExpress Live in Holborn which also sponsored the event to promote the regular comedy nights it now hosts in the intimate basement bar.
