Plotlines in the second series include Amy Poehler’s public servant character Leslie Knope marrying gay penguins, welcoming a military regime from Venezuela, hosting a 36-hour telethon and taking on her boss Ron Swanson for Woman Of The Year.

Recently shown on BBC Four in the UK, the series also features guest appearances from Rob Lowe, Will Arnett and Louis CK - who plays a local cop – as well as regular cast members Aziz Ansari, Aubrey Plaza, Rashida Jones and Nick Offerman. In one in-joke, Offerman’s wife Megan Mullally – aka Karen from Will & Grace – appears in the series as his on-screen spouse, too.

The show has received plenty of critical praise. It was named the top show of 2012 by Time Magazine, while writer Caitlin Moran said of the comedy: ’I finally have something to live for.’

The disc includes all 24 episodes plus bonus features including Deleted Scenes and an audio commentary and is released today, with a recommended price of £29.99. A Season 1 and 2 box set also including the six episodes on the first series is also out today.
